The challenge was to 'educate' the press and potential investors about this small, niche fund, and correctly position the fund's good performance as a vindication of the firm's use of this specialist investment approach – applying private equity techniques in the public markets. Additionally, Penrose needed to ensure differentiation of SVGIM, the public equity fund management division, from SVG Capital, its listed private equity parent.
